Chuck Shaefer

Charles Joseph "Chuck" Shaefer dedicated his heart and soul to the citizens and city of Manteca whether it was mingling at a Senior Center event, serving as master of ceremonies for a community activity, or talking with a concerned citizen at a local coffee shop.

He served as a councilman from 1970 through 1984 and as mayor from 1972 to 1973. Shaefer served as general chairman of the special events committee of the Manteca Chamber of Commerce and helped establish the Fourth of July celebration at Gus Schmiedt Field. He served as master of ceremonies for over 100 events during a 15-year stretch including Fourth of July, Miss Manteca pageants, Labor Day ceremonies, and Veteran’s Day remembrances. He served as past master of the Tyrian Lodge of Masons, served as president of the Manteca Cowboys Pop Warner football organization and volunteered for numerous other community endeavors.

He was instrumental in getting funding for the Manteca Industrial Park, Highway 120 Bypass, building the Civic Center, Northgate Park, and many other civic improvements.

He served as a volunteer Manteca firefighter and Manteca Ambulance driver for over 15 years. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters, Manteca DeMolay, Manteca Rainbow Girls, Knights Templar, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
