Michael E. Henry

Education

A graduate of Drake University, Mike Henry came to Manteca in 1970 to teach history and mathematics in the local schools. To these duties, he added coaching of basketball and other sports. He soon earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
Mike taught and coached at Manteca High School for 27 years and accomplished much during that period in the classroom as well as on the athletic fields and gym courts. In the classroom, his students always performed beyond expectations on standardized tests. Fellow teachers reported on how well-prepared, motivated and disciplined his students were when taking next-level classes.
Mr. Henry’s accomplishments in athletics are numerous, as well. Coaching all three levels of basketball, he is the only coach in the Manteca Unified School District to lead his boys basketball team to a league title and to the California Interscholastic Federation’s Sac-Joaquin Section Championship in the same year. He was chosen the Valley Oak League basketball Coach of the Year for the 1986-87 season. In addition, Mike coached golf and was instrumental in the development of the girls’ golf program at Manteca High School.
So many of Mike’s former students credit him with teaching them a good work ethic and to always do their best. He was an outstanding teacher/coach who truly cared about his students.
